Cement Screed in Cape Town

A seamless, colour-pigmented cement finish for floors, walls, ceilings and counter tops, sealed for a longer lifespan.

Cement screed is a hand-applied, cement-based finish that gives a room one continuous surface with no grout lines. We pigment the screed to the colour you choose, from warm sand and caramel tones to soft greys, and finish it with a clear sealant so it lasts longer and is easier to keep clean.

Because it is applied by hand, every floor and wall has subtle movement and texture. That is what gives screed its natural, lived-in character. It works on floors, walls, ceilings and counter tops, so you can carry one finish through an open-plan living area, a kitchen or a bathroom for a calm, connected look.

Screed Solutions has applied decorative screed in homes across Brackenfell, Durbanville and the West Coast. We use quality products and prepare every surface properly before we start, and our work is backed by a 2-year guarantee. Cement Screed FAQs

Can cement screed be used in bathrooms?

Yes. Screed is often used on bathroom floors, walls and even inside showers. Wet areas need the right preparation, waterproofing underneath and a suitable sealant on top, and the sealant should be maintained over time. We will advise on what your bathroom needs during the consultation.

Are hairline cracks in screed normal?

Fine hairline cracks can appear in cement-based finishes as the material cures and the building moves slightly with temperature changes. They are usually cosmetic and many people see them as part of the natural look. Good surface preparation reduces the risk, and larger or widening cracks should be looked at, as they may point to movement in the structure below.

How do I clean and maintain a screed floor?

Sweep or vacuum regularly and mop with warm water and a mild, pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid bleach, acidic or abrasive products, as they can damage the sealant. Depending on how much traffic the floor gets, the sealant may need a refresh coat every few years.

Can screed be applied over existing tiles?

Often it can, as long as the tiles are firmly bonded, level and properly prepared first. Loose or hollow tiles must be removed. Whether an overlay is suitable depends on the condition of the existing floor, so we assess this on site.
