Breathable Natural Paint in Cape Town
Decorative natural paints that let moisture evaporate out of a surface but not penetrate it, which helps prevent peeling and flaking.
Breathable natural paints let moisture evaporate out of a wall while helping to stop water from getting in. Ordinary paints can trap moisture behind a sealed film, which is a common cause of bubbling, peeling and flaking. A breathable finish lets the wall dry out naturally, so the paint stays put.
This makes natural paint a good fit for older homes, walls that tend to hold damp and rooms with a lot of humidity, such as bathrooms and kitchens. It is also a decorative finish, with a soft, matt depth of colour that suits both modern and traditional interiors.
We apply breathable natural paints to walls, ceilings and other surfaces. Before painting, we look at the condition of the wall, as existing non-breathable coatings may need to be removed for the system to work properly. Book a free consultation and we will advise on the best approach for your home.

Breathable Natural Paint FAQs
What is breathable paint?
Breathable paint is vapour-permeable, which means water vapour can pass through it and escape from the wall. Many natural paints, such as lime- and mineral-based products, work this way. Conventional acrylic paints form a tighter film that can trap moisture.
Will breathable paint fix rising damp?
No paint fixes the cause of rising damp on its own. Breathable paint lets moisture escape and helps prevent peeling and flaking, but the source of the damp, such as a failed damp-proof course or a leak, should be dealt with as well.
Can breathable paint go over existing paint?
It depends on what is already on the wall. If the existing coating is non-breathable, it can block moisture from escaping and may need to be removed first. We check this during the consultation.
